Reasons to go to Pelvic Health Physical Therapy During Pregnancy.

Pregnancy brings so many changes to your body, and every person experiences those changes a little differently. Some people come to pelvic health physical therapy because they are having back pain, pelvic pressure, hip pain, or leaking. Others want help staying active, preparing for birth, understanding their pelvic floor, or creating a plan for postpartum recovery. You do not have to wait until symptoms feel severe to get support. Pelvic PT during pregnancy can help you feel more comfortable, more confident, and more connected to your body as it changes.

Managing New Aches and Pains

New aches and pains are common during pregnancy. Your body is adapting to carry your baby, your tissues may feel more mobile because of hormonal changes, and your muscles are being asked to work in new ways. It is very common for symptoms to show up in the low back, pelvis, hips, tailbone, pubic bone, or pelvic floor.

Working on these symptoms during pregnancy can help you feel more comfortable now and may also reduce the chance that small issues turn into ongoing discomfort that affects the rest of pregnancy or postpartum recovery.

Facilitating a More Active Pregnancy

The better you feel and are able to move, the more active you are able to stay during your pregnancy. There have been medical studies that have proven the positive impacts of exercise during pregnancy for both mom and baby as well as regular exercise leading to a better labor experience for those with an active lifestyle.

Preparing for Labor and Delivery

While there are many parts of labor and birth that are outside of our control, there are also meaningful ways we can support your body ahead of time. Pelvic health therapy can help improve pelvic mobility, pelvic floor coordination, breathing mechanics, and awareness of tension or holding patterns.

Learning how to tune into your body and pelvic floor can be incredibly helpful during labor. It may help you explore more comfortable positions, understand how to relax and coordinate your pelvic floor, and feel more confident with pushing when the time comes.

Establishing a Game Plan for Postpartum

Going into the postpartum recovery with a plan and a general understanding of how to care for yourself is SO important. With so many other new challenges, taking the guesswork out of how to support your body can be a big help. We always talk through what postpartum recovery can look like, appropriate ways to reintroduce activity and exercise, and any other specific concerns you may have.

Jennie helped me tremendously throughout my pregnancy. I struggled with back pain, and within two sessions I was feeling great relief. She also spent time giving me tips on how to manage pain during labor. My recovery felt so much easier, and I believe it was due to all the prep work beforehand.
